Ghana - Akoma International Academy - October 2014

I met with students at the Akoma International Academy. The children there taught a dance called "Gota". We filmed the first dance lesson for my students in New York City. The next time I visited the academy, the children were practicing 7 different traditional dances in preparation for a cultural show. They have a lot of stamina and energy.

The great job the teachers are doing is evident in their student's dedication to the arts, love of learning and knowledge of their cultural history. It was great dancing with them, donating to the scholarship fund and beginning the pen pal project with them. They were overjoyed to receive supplies donated by the students at school P.S. 87. I only wish I had more to give to this deserving school and could stay longer and see their big show!
