Getting to Gambia -October 2014
Getting to Gambia wasn't easy after my first ticket was canceled by the airlines because of the Ebola case in Senegal. Rerouting a host of new flights was three times the price but worth it for this experience. I'm staying with a friend's family from Gambia. His teenaged son arranged my first dance class for me. I expected one dance teacher and a drummer and wasn't prepared when three cabs pulled up loaded with beautifully clad dancers in indigo wraps with a host of drummers.
I planned to sit and watch for my first day but they called me to the circle to come and learn right away. I had no counting or advanced preparation. Dancing with each sister, seeing each one's graceful movements, distinct personality and the connection between our eyes will be forever etched into my memory. I'm grateful and blessed to be here!
