Kumasi Adowa- September 2014

Wow! I've just returned from Akwasidae in Kumasi Ghana. There I met a host of young people who were eager to teach me Adowa ( Ashanti Royal Court dance) and to write letters to their pen pals in New York City. I told them I would like to record them and in less than 15 minutes, they had changed into traditional clothing, organized some drums and arranged themselves with boys drumming and girls dancing.

I was amazed at the quality of their impromptu performance and their ability to follow and listen to each other. Trying to play back the video for all of them on my tiny view finder soon led to children falling over each other as each one tried to see themselves on tape. Next time I'll at least carry my laptop. I need tons of energy to keep up with the children here. They have my heart!
